~ Passionfruit Myths ~

At Fruits of Whitsunday, we have discovered there are still many myths about Passionfruit.  This page is designed to break those myths and present truthful facts for your knowledge.

Myth 1:  " Passionfruit are best when wrinkled "

Ideally Passionfruit are best eaten as fresh as possible and with NO wrinkles. Wrinkles are a sign the passionfruit has begun to de-hydrate and show it's age. A wrinkled passionfruit is still edible but not perfect.  If you find an excessively wrinkled passionfruit for sale, only demand the freshest.

Myth 2: " Passionfruit are better value when small "

This is certainly not true,  larger Passionfruit equals more pulp to skin ratio.  For example..

Fruits of Whitsunday has carried out extensive market research by purchasing the purple passionfruit from various outlets to compare with our Panama passionfruit.

The observations were:

  • The average whole purple passionfruit weighed 50g.

  • Fruits of Whitsunday’s average size 60 Panama passionfruit weighed 85g

  • The pulp in the purple passionfruit weighed 23g

  • The pulp in the Panama passionfruit weighed 44g

Therefore the Panama passionfruit has 100% more pulp.

Myth 3: " Other Passionfruit varieties are sweeter than the Panama Passionfruit "

Don't believe this misconception. Our research into taste and sweetness between Panama and other Passionfruit varieties, shows that 70% of people find the taste of our Panama Passionfruit sweeter. If you don't believe us try some of our Panama Passionfruit for yourself.

Myth 4: " Passionfruit should be picked only when on the ground "

At Fruits of Whitsunday, we do not pick our passionfruit from the ground. We find at that time the Passionfruit have started to ferment and can also contract harmful pathogens from the soil.

Fruits of  Whitsunday's Panama Passionfruit are freshly cut ripe from the vine; Avoiding pathogens from the ground and preventing back problems.
